Conservation

"The history of life on Earth has been a history of interaction between living things and their surroundings. Only within the moment of time, represented by the present century, has one species- man- acquired significant power to alter the nature of his world." - Rachel Carson

This business was created to bring awareness to all the color & beauty of the desert. 20% of all known species are threatened or endangered with Earth's population of wild vertebrates declining by over 58% in a 40-year time frame! That's huge! The future of wildlife is a global responsibility. Conservation takes time & effort but each small step matters. So, why the desert? It's commonly a place thought of as dry & dead. It just so turns out, though, that our Sonoran Desert has the ability to be one of the most beautiful, colorful & vibrant places on earth with an abundance of life fighting to survive. Cacti, alone, are the fifth most endangered organism in the world. Without them, desert wildlife would lose a vital source of food and habitat. Desert demise can in time, lead to cascading effects on global climate, vegetation, all wildlife & even human populations.

Climate change, urbanization, mining, toxic waste, invasive species, etc have all impacted these plants & animal's ability to subsist. They need us, just as much as we need them. Take pride in knowing that every amount seen below was raised by a community of people with the world's conservation at heart. We are grateful to have you here & thank you for taking the time to learn about our beautiful Sonoran Desert.

2024

Desert Chique Shop opened in 2024, operating approximately 4.5 months out of the year. We donated a total of $1205.oo to conservation efforts, in addition to over $500 worth of product to charities, fund-raising events and clothing banks. The donations last year went to trail restoration, trash removal on public lands, care of injured wildlife, desert wildlife research projects and the planting saguaro project with the Tucson Audubon Society, in their mission to plant 11,000 saguaros to protect the eco system of the Sonoran Desert.
