Hello all!
For those that are new here, Desert Chique is a small business working to create awareness of our big, beautiful and diverse Sonoran Desert. We have the most diverse desert in the world, with over 200 species of plant and 600 species of animals! In order to show case some of the amazing aspects of our desert, I create handmade jewlery and healing skin care from harvested desert plants, in addition to desert inspired accessories. These items are then sold at pop up markets and on line, with 10% of sales going to wilderness conservation. More items are for sale at live markets than are featured on my website, due to certain pieces of jewlery being extremely unique and one of kind, such as painted pieces of the saguaro rib. Please refer to Events Page of this website for market dates and location. Gallery coming soon of additional photos of my products and other market vendors.
This business began last year and operated approximately 4 full months, raising over 1200$ for wilderness conservation and donating over 500$ in product to charity, clothing banks and fund raisers. This year, in addition the above, Desert Chique was also asked to be featured in Arizona Sonora Desert Museum annual gala to raise money for their research programs.
Sales for 2024 ended in Novemeber and resumed in February 2025. Our donation for February, was given to Tucson Cactus and Succulent Society, to their conservation fund, for a total 109$.
Tucson Cactus and Succulent Society
https://tcss.wildapricot.org/
- Focuses on the protection, knowledge and study of cacti and other succulents.
- Affiliate of Cactus and Succelent Society of America
- Rescue Crew saves cacti and other native plants that would otherwise be destroyed. Their work crew volunteers dig up and move the cacti out of harm’s way. Some plants go home with the volunteers, some are transplanted to Pima Prickly Park, and the rest are sold at our plant sales. Efforts are supplemental to the on-site preservation that may be required by development permits and Native Plant Protection Ordinances (NPPO). By selling rescued cactus at reasonable costs to the public, they not only save these native plants, but encourage homeowners to use native plants in their landscapes, saving water and preserving our Southern Arizona gene-pool
- Conservation includes: Native Plant Rescue, Urban Plant Rescue, Propagation Training, Reforestation, Seed Repository, Grants
